Wolverhampton Wanderers are not interested in selling any of their players to Chelsea or any other club in the January transfer window.
Despite Wolves’ struggles in the Premier League, players like Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha may find a move to Chelsea appealing. Cunha played a key role in Wolves’ recent 4-1 win over Fulham, scoring two goals, and has since been linked to top clubs. Ait-Nouri is also drawing attention, with reports earlier this month suggesting that Chelsea are targeting the left-back.
However, Chelsea may find it difficult to secure Ait-Nouri’s signature in January, as Wolves are determined to retain him in their bid to avoid relegation. Both Chelsea and Manchester United have shown interest in Ait-Nouri, but Wolves’ current position is that they do not want to sell him. United’s left-back issues, particularly due to Luke Shaw’s injuries, have made them a potential suitor, but Chelsea are adequately covered in that position.
Enzo Maresca’s squad includes Marc Cucurella, who has been performing well at left-back, as well as Renato Veiga. Ben Chilwell also remains at Chelsea. Jason Cundy recently praised Cucurella’s “excellent” display in a 1-1 draw against Arsenal.
Wolves’ manager Gary O’Neil has described Ait-Nouri as “extremely talented,” further underlining his importance to the club.
If Chelsea were to sign Ait-Nouri, the 23-year-old would have to compete with Cucurella for a starting spot. However, this would be a tough challenge for Ait-Nouri, as Cucurella is currently regarded as one of the top left-backs in the Premier League.
Statistically, Ait-Nouri has outperformed Cucurella in some defensive areas this season. However, Ait-Nouri plays for a team that faces more defensive pressure than Chelsea and has also accumulated more playing time.
Ultimately, Ait-Nouri could serve as a good alternative to Cucurella, but with the recent signing of Veiga and Chilwell still at Chelsea, a move for Ait-Nouri may not be necessary at this time.
