West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui’s recent poor results in the Premier League have placed his job in jeopardy. However, former Crystal Palace chairman and talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has strongly rejected the idea of Graham Potter replacing him, labeling the former Chelsea manager as a ‘flake’ due to his handling of his brief stint at Stamford Bridge.
Potter managed Chelsea for just seven months, winning only 12 of his 31 games, before being dismissed. Since then, he has not returned to management, despite being linked with several top-tier roles. Jordan, however, remains critical, suggesting that Potter’s time at Chelsea revealed a lack of leadership, making him unsuitable for the West Ham position.
On talkSPORT, Jordan expressed his disapproval, calling Potter a “flake” and criticizing his lack of strength during his Chelsea tenure. He stated: “I think Potter’s a flake. Sorry, it’s not the most positive thing to say, but I believe it. If they think Potter is the answer, that would be interesting. His time at Chelsea showed weak leadership. He portrayed himself as psychologically under pressure, feeling intimidated, and even receiving death threats. That doesn’t seem like strong leadership to me. It might be a personal takeaway, but that’s how I see it.”
Potter, who left Chelsea in early April 2023, has now been out of management for nearly 20 months. With time passing, there’s a risk of being forgotten in the football world. Reports suggest that Potter turned down an opportunity to manage Ajax towards the end of last season, highlighting his reluctance to return to a managerial role.
