Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy sent a message to Jamie Vardy ahead of his team’s upcoming match against Brighton.
Van Nistelrooy is preparing for his second game in charge of Leicester this weekend, aiming to secure back-to-back wins since taking over from Steve Cooper. The Dutch manager led the Foxes to a 3-1 victory over West Ham United earlier this week and hopes for a similar result against Brighton.
Brighton, currently sitting 5th in the Premier League, have been playing exceptional football and will likely challenge Leicester’s struggling defense, which has been one of the weakest in the league.
In his pre-match press conference, van Nistelrooy reminisced about the nine-year anniversary of Jamie Vardy breaking his record for consecutive Premier League goals. The Dutchman had congratulated Vardy on social media at the time.
When asked if he had forgiven Vardy for breaking his record, van Nistelrooy joked that Vardy would need to break the record again to earn his forgiveness, saying, “I said he has to break the record again, then I’ll be able to forgive him!” While clearly a playful remark, it would be remarkable if Vardy could achieve such a feat.
Van Nistelrooy also spoke about Vardy’s evolution as a player. At 37 years old, soon to be 38, Vardy remains Leicester’s top scorer this season with five goals in 13 Premier League matches. Van Nistelrooy shared his thoughts on how the veteran striker has adapted his game over the years. He explained, “You don’t have to think about it one day—it’s a process that evolves throughout your career. Jamie is adapting with the game intelligence he has and knowing where he needs to be. You saw it with the timing of his run. He won’t lose that, he won’t ever lose that.”
