“Bruno Guimaraes’ Latest Post Sends Shockwaves Through Man City Fans – Is a Transfer Looming?
Bruno Guimaraes is attracting interest from Manchester City, but the midfielder is focused on making “many more” appearances for Newcastle United. With Rodri likely to miss the rest of the season and Mateo Kovacic also sidelined, Man City are looking to strengthen their midfield. According to Mail Sport, Pep Guardiola has made it clear that Guimaraes is a key target as part of the club’s plans.
Guimaraes has long been admired by Guardiola, who recently signed a contract extension with City until 2026. There was interest during the summer transfer window, but City chose not to activate his £100 million release clause, which expired at the end of June. Reports suggest that City could test Newcastle’s resolve with a bid, either in January or next summer. While manager Eddie Howe is likely to resist any offers, a major sale would give Newcastle more financial flexibility in the transfer market under Premier League Profitability and Sustainability (PSR) rules.
However, there is no indication that Howe or Guimaraes are considering a departure from St James’ Park. The 27-year-old recently made his 100th Premier League appearance in a match against Liverpool.
On social media, Guimaraes expressed his pride, writing: “100 games with this shirt in the Premier League. I couldn’t be prouder. Here’s to many more!”
Since joining Newcastle from Lyon for £40 million in January 2022, Guimaraes has made 124 appearances, playing a key role in the club’s rise from battling relegation to qualifying for the Champions League. Having quickly become a fan favorite both on and off the pitch, he joined the leadership group in the summer and was later named captain.
“I believe that at my club I am an idol and I have a lot of respect,” Guimaraes said last month. “I am the captain of Newcastle, and if you had asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League. Playing, being an idol, being captain—it’s something wonderful. I really like Newcastle.”
