Leicester City flop who left for free is now outshining Jamie Vardy with 10 goals in 11 games
Jamie Vardy remains one of Leicester City’s standout players, even as he approaches his 38th birthday next month.
Leicester City’s decision to sign Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood Town in 2012 has proven to be a brilliant move. The striker is now the Foxes’ third all-time top scorer, having netted an impressive 191 goals.
Vardy played a pivotal role in Leicester’s historic Premier League title win, scoring 24 goals and providing 7 assists in 36 matches. He also set a Premier League record that season by scoring in 11 consecutive games, surpassing Ruud van Nistelrooy’s previous record.
Despite being 37 years old, Vardy continues to lead Leicester’s attack in the 2024/25 season. Van Nistelrooy has praised Vardy ahead of Leicester’s upcoming match against Brighton, hoping the striker adds to his tally of five goals in 13 league appearances as they head to the Amex on Sunday.

Ayoze Perez Flourishing at Villarreal After Leicester Exit
Ayoze Perez, who joined Leicester City from Newcastle United in 2019 for around £30m, had a mixed tenure at the King Power Stadium. The Spaniard impressed at Newcastle, scoring 12 goals and assisting 2 in 37 league games during the 2018/19 season, but struggled to replicate that form with Leicester.
Perez made 114 appearances for Leicester but scored only 15 goals. After an underwhelming spell, Leicester released him at the end of the 2022/23 season, and he signed with Real Betis.
In the summer of 2024, Villarreal secured his services, and Perez has thrived at his new club. He has scored 7 goals in 9 La Liga matches and an impressive 10 goals in 11 games across all competitions this season.
In comparison, Vardy has netted 5 goals in 13 Premier League appearances but hasn’t featured in any cup matches.

Looking back, it made sense for Leicester to let Perez go, especially given the hefty price tag and his relatively low goal tally. However, Leicester now finds itself in need of a striker with the form Perez has shown at Villarreal.
Apart from Vardy, the Foxes currently lack a quality centre-forward. Odsonne Edouard, who struggled under Steve Cooper, has yet to feature for Leicester’s new manager, while Patson Daka, despite showing promise off the bench against West Ham United, has never been a consistent Premier League goal-scorer.
