Everton and Liverpool were preparing for the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Saturday. However, due to Storm Darragh, the match was postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.
Everton announced, “Following a Safety Advisory Group meeting at Goodison Park this morning, attended by officials from both clubs, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council, it was decided that the match should be postponed due to safety concerns caused by strong wind gusts. An amber severe wind warning remains in effect until 6am Sunday.”
Despite the delay, local food banks benefitted as Everton ensured that no food from the match would go to waste.
Focus now shifts to when the game will be rescheduled, with potential dates being gameweeks 24, 25, or 33, although nothing is confirmed. In the meantime, the rivalry continues, with both sets of fans keeping an eye on each other’s results, as is tradition.
Following the postponement, pundit Richard Keys made a surprising revelation—he has switched his allegiance from Liverpool to Everton. Speaking on beIN Sports, Keys explained that while he supported Liverpool during their successful years, he always recognized Everton as the “good guys” and has now become a fan of the Toffees. His co-hosts were skeptical, but Keys defended his decision by referencing Everton legend Peter Reid, who had once admitted to supporting Liverpool.
Interestingly, it’s not uncommon for individuals to switch between the two clubs. Jamie Carragher, for example, grew up as an Everton fan but switched to Liverpool once he joined their academy, though he still holds a soft spot for Everton, as they were part of his early footballing experiences.
