Fewer touches than Forster: Ange must now surely drop 4/10 Tottenham dud
Pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou intensified last night after Tottenham Hotspur suffered their second consecutive Premier League defeat, this time at the hands of Chelsea.
At one point, Spurs appeared on track to bounce back in style, taking a 2-0 lead within ten minutes thanks to goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski. However, Chelsea turned the game around, with Cole Palmer, Jadon Sancho, and Enzo Fernández all finding the net to secure a second straight four-goal victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, following last season’s 4-1 win.
The result leaves Tottenham in 11th place, seven points adrift of the top four, and struggling to meet expectations this season.
This defeat continues a rollercoaster few weeks for Spurs, further piling pressure on Postecoglou after another heavy loss. Tottenham’s recent inconsistency has been evident throughout the 2024/25 campaign. A few weeks ago, Spurs shocked the Premier League by defeating Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad, ending City’s long unbeaten streak at home. However, since then, Postecoglou’s side has struggled to replicate that form, with no wins in their last four matches, drawing two and losing two, contributing to their poor league position.
Tottenham has led in almost every match during this stretch, with the Bournemouth game being the only exception where they failed to score. However, maintaining those leads has been the issue, as demonstrated by Sunday’s game where they threw away a two-goal advantage and lost yet another crucial Premier League match.
Fans are becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of consistency under Postecoglou, and the manager’s position could be in jeopardy if results don’t improve soon. To reverse the team’s fortunes, Postecoglou may need to consider dropping a player following another disappointing performance.
Yves Bissouma, in particular, had a poor showing against Chelsea. Not only did he give away a penalty early in the second half, allowing Cole Palmer to score, but his overall performance was lackluster. Bissouma made just 31 touches, fewer than goalkeeper Fraser Forster’s 35, and he lost five duels, committed three fouls, and failed to make any interceptions. His lack of influence in the midfield contributed to Tottenham’s downfall.
As a result, Bissouma received a poor 4/10 rating from The Express, the lowest of any Spurs player in the match. Given his performance, Postecoglou may need to drop Bissouma for upcoming matches if he hopes to turn around the team’s fortunes and avoid further pressure on his own position.
