Nottingham Forest and owner Evangelos Marinakis are closely monitoring a “fantastic” £50 million player, according to recent reports.
After a strong 2-1 Premier League victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, which propelled them into the top four, Forest’s impressive form this season shows no signs of slowing down. With European football looking increasingly likely for next season, January could be an opportunity for Forest to bolster their already exciting squad.
A new striker may be a priority for manager Nuno Espirito Santo, as the team will want to avoid over-relying on Chris Wood for goals. Reports last week suggested that Forest had inquired about Igor Jesus from Botafogo, with the Brazilian club not willing to accept any offers below €20 million. A bid around €40 million (approximately £33 million) could see Forest secure Jesus in January.
Forest are also looking to sign another striker for the future. The club is interested in 18-year-old Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile from Preston, who has been impressing in the Lilywhites’ academy. Forest are in a three-way battle with Tottenham Hotspur and Ipswich Town to secure his signature.
Tracking a £50m Star Amid Interest from PSG and Bayern According to Caught Offside, Forest are keeping tabs on PSV winger Johan Bakayoko ahead of the January transfer window. The 21-year-old has been with PSV since July 2019 and has helped the Dutch side win the Eredivisie, the Dutch Cup twice, and the Dutch Super Cup twice.
Bakayoko, praised as “fantastic” by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, had a standout 2023/24 season, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists in 33 league games. He also found the net in the Champions League.
Forest are not the only club keeping an eye on Bakayoko. Other top clubs, including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle United, and Liverpool, are also reportedly interested. The Belgian international’s contract runs until 2026, meaning PSV will soon need to decide what to do with him.
PSV are said to be seeking at least €60 million (around £50 million) for Bakayoko, and while they are not looking to part ways with him in January without a fight, they may consider selling if their asking price is met. Forest have not yet made any formal contact regarding a move for Bakayoko, as they continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks.
