“FINALLY”- Rangers star’s potential departure becomes more likely as manager comments following £400m takeover.
Premier League interest in one of Rangers’ new signings has emerged just five months after his arrival.
In that short time, Hamza Igamane has gone from a relatively unknown figure to one of the key players in Philippe Clement’s Rangers revolution. Having made the move from Morocco to Scotland, the £1.7 million signing from RAF Rabat initially faced a slow start, as Clement was cautious about throwing him into action too soon, despite having faith in the youngster’s potential. However, Igamane soon made an impact, with a standout performance in the Europa League against Nice, where he scored twice, sparking the beginning of his Rangers career.
By the time of Sunday’s Scottish Cup final, Igamane had secured a starting spot in the team, even displacing Cyriel Dessers. His goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League took his tally to five goals in just five games, catching the eye of many. Rangers defender Leon Balogun even compared him to Didier Drogba.
Reports indicate that Everton recently scouted Igamane, especially after he converted a typical James Tavernier cross in Rangers’ match against Spurs. With Everton’s £400 million takeover by the Friedkin Group now complete, the Premier League club’s interest in Igamane has grown. However, with Everton still under the constraints of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, their ability to make big-money signings remains limited.
Everton manager Sean Dyche spoke about the impact of the takeover on their transfer plans, emphasizing that while the new ownership provides a more balanced financial outlook, the club will still be constrained by financial regulations. Dyche clarified that transfers will be influenced by these rules, with major deals unlikely.
Everton’s transfer strategy may also be shaped by their finances, as the club spent around £40 million last summer, funded partly by the £50 million sale of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa. Reports suggest that Everton will be restricted to low-cost signings in January, with survival being the primary focus. This doesn’t rule out a move for Igamane, but the price Rangers would demand for the player remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, Everton is also reportedly interested in other forwards, including Yuri Alberto. However, the Brazilian’s move could come at a significant cost, with Corinthians seeking a £5 million loan fee and an additional £15 million for a permanent transfer.
As for Rangers, their transfer focus is likely to be on strengthening their midfield. They are closely monitoring NK Osijek’s Marko Soldo and FCSB captain Darius Olaru, with the latter being a recurring name in transfer rumors.
