Kasper Schmeichel has experienced a diverse and eventful career in football.

From winning the Premier League with Leicester City to playing in League Two with Notts County, Schmeichel’s journey has been full of highs and lows.

Throughout his career, the Danish goalkeeper has faced some of the top players in world football, both in the Premier League and at the World Cup.

However, in a recent appearance on Ben Foster’s podcast, Schmeichel revealed an intriguing fact about one player he always dreaded facing.

Surprisingly, the goalkeeper admitted that Jonjo Shelvey, particularly during his time at Newcastle, was a player he feared.

Kasper Schmeichel’s Fear of Jonjo Shelvey During the podcast, Schmeichel shared who he would fear the most when playing.

Interestingly, he wasn’t particularly intimidated by many strikers, but he did fear Shelvey due to his tendency to take long-range shots during his time at Newcastle.

There was even a time when Schmeichel was a target for Newcastle, so he could have ended up as Shelvey’s teammate at St James’ Park.

“Is there any one player you played against where you are just on high alert, whenever they have the ball you’re thinking ‘my god he’s on the ball?’” Schmeichel asked.

“There are players who will take chances, especially if you’re off your line, and they’ll spot it. In the Premier League, every striker is very good,” he added.

He continued, “I remember particularly when we played Newcastle, if Jonjo Shelvey won the ball on the halfway line, he’d have a go. Charlie Adam was another one.”

Jonjo Shelvey’s Record Against Kasper Schmeichel Schmeichel’s concern about Shelvey’s ability to score from long distances was well-founded. Shelvey had a reputation for scoring remarkable long-range goals, including a famous strike from almost halfway for Swansea.

However, Schmeichel didn’t always have much to worry about in terms of Shelvey’s success against him.

Despite Shelvey’s ability to score from almost anywhere on the field, his record against Schmeichel is not particularly impressive. In fact, Shelvey has only scored once against the former Leicester goalkeeper.

While Shelvey is undeniably a talented technical player, he didn’t often showcase his scoring ability when facing Schmeichel.
