Metro warning for Sunderland fans ahead of Norwich match – advice for getting to Stadium of Light
Today, the Black Cats will face the Canaries at the Stadium of Light, with a 3pm kick-off.
However, there is currently a suspension of the Metro service between Monument and Heworth, which could affect fans traveling to the Championship match against Norwich City.
The closure of the Metro line between Monument and Heworth is a precautionary measure due to the ongoing closure of the A167 Gateshead Highway flyover. After receiving further advice from Gateshead Council’s structural engineers yesterday afternoon, it was decided to suspend Metro services through the tunnels that run beneath the flyover.
Fans are advised to plan their travel in advance and allow extra time to reach the game if traveling in the affected area.
Some away fans traveling to Sunderland from Newcastle city center may also be impacted. A replacement bus service (900) is operating between Monument and Heworth, and Metro tickets are valid on all local bus routes.
Metro services are still running on the Sunderland line (Pelaw-South Hylton), but with a reduced frequency of 24 minutes, meaning trains will be busier than usual.
