“He got the sense”- Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou shares what he really thinks of Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest
Nuno Espirito Santo will be aiming to secure another crucial three points for Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day when Tottenham visit the City Ground.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has faced some criticism this season, particularly after his side’s 6-3 loss to Liverpool on Sunday, which left Spurs in the bottom half of the Premier League standings.
For Espirito Santo, there is added motivation heading into the Boxing Day clash, as he was sacked after a disappointing 17-game tenure at Tottenham. That stint threatened to damage his reputation as a coach in England, but Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis gave him the chance to rebuild his career, and he hasn’t looked back since.
Brian Laws praised Espirito Santo on Saturday, and now it seems the current Tottenham manager, Postecoglou, is also an admirer of the Forest boss.
Ange Postecoglou’s views on Nuno Espirito Santo
Although Daniel Levy is likely to back Postecoglou despite Tottenham’s injury crisis, the Spurs manager is in urgent need of positive results to lift his team up the Premier League table.
Ahead of the Boxing Day match, Postecoglou was asked about Espirito Santo and expressed high regard for the Forest manager. In his press conference, Postecoglou said: “I’ve followed Nuno’s career for quite a while. He’s had a few of my Australian players in his teams, and I have great admiration for him. He went through a tough period where people wrote him off, but he did a great job at Wolves. It didn’t work out for him at Spurs, but that happens. He’s shown he’s a top manager and is doing a fantastic job at Forest.”
He continued, “Look at the last few years – teams promoted to the Premier League have really struggled, but Forest have thrived. They’re one of the few teams that have done so well since coming up. Credit to him and the way he’s managing. I’ve only met him a couple of times, but you get a sense of what kind of person he is – he’s a good guy, and a top manager.”
Espirito Santo could deepen Postecoglou’s struggles
Tottenham certainly have players who can challenge Forest, and the upcoming match will be tough for the Reds. However, despite their attacking threat, Spurs have shown this season that they are also vulnerable at the back, conceding goals at a concerning rate.
Forest’s high-paced style of play makes them a serious threat to Tottenham, and if Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray are in central defense, there could be a real opportunity for the home side.
It won’t be an easy task for Forest, but with the City Ground atmosphere and the home advantage, this Boxing Day encounter could prove challenging for a Tottenham side struggling to find their form.
