While Everton may still be near the bottom of the table, there are positive signs emerging, with The Friedkin Group already making a notable impact since taking over.
However, the new owners have been cautioned by Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, who warned them against making a critical mistake. The Friedkin Group has been advised not to sack Sean Dyche.
After meeting with the new owners on Friday, Dyche was reassured of their support following the takeover. Recent results have validated this decision, with Everton managing to take points from two of the Premier League’s top teams.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, both Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker expressed confidence in Dyche’s ability to lead the team. “He’s very organized and disciplined, and they’re tough to break down,” Lineker said. “I’ve always thought that with Dyche’s experience, they’ll have enough to stay ahead of teams around them,” Shearer added. “The key this season is survival, especially with the new stadium next year. I believe Dyche will keep them up.”
Not everyone shares this confidence, though. Tim Howard suggested Everton should consider hiring Graham Potter instead of Dyche. The 53-year-old Potter’s contract expires in the summer, which could make the decision easier for The Friedkin Group.
Some Everton fans have criticized Dyche for certain decisions this season, but he has managed to keep the team afloat in the Premier League for the past two years.
This situation brings to mind West Ham’s summer decision to replace David Moyes with Julien Lopetegui, a move that has not paid off, with West Ham only slightly ahead of Everton in the table.
Although Everton’s new owners may act in the January transfer window, expectations should remain realistic. The potential reward of hiring a new manager might not justify the risk, especially when Dyche is showing, with a healthy squad, that he could achieve more at Goodison Park.
