Brendan Rodgers made several changes to the starting lineup after Celtic’s uninspiring draw with Dundee United, with key players returning from illness, injury, or simply rotation. Cameron Carter-Vickers returned to the side, Adam Idah started up front, and Kyogo Furuhashi was benched.
Brendan Rodgers’ Criticism of Adam Idah:
Celtic spent a significant sum to sign Idah in the summer, but he is still working to secure a regular spot, with Kyogo remaining the main striker. Idah showed some liveliness during the game against Motherwell, but ultimately failed to score.
Pat Bonner noted that Rodgers seemed unimpressed with Idah’s performance. Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, Bonner said, “I don’t think Brendan Rodgers is impressed with Adam Idah. He gave the ball away on the edge of the Motherwell defense.”
Bonner added, “When you can bring on three players who are usually starters, it’s a clear indication of the standard going up. Brendan has managed to give these players valuable game time and assess them. Adam Idah, Yang, and Bernardo came off, and the intensity certainly didn’t drop. If anything, it increased.”
Idah’s Performance Against Motherwell:
This was Idah’s seventh start of the season, following 13 substitute appearances, but he was unable to add to his six goals. With rumors of Celtic targeting another striker in January, it raises questions about Idah’s role going forward.
