“Yeah, well, you know, it was a penalty to Celtic as well, there will be many people moaning about that but i only hopes that……”- Kris Boyd’s harsh penalty critique of a Celtic player in the match against Motherwell persisted, with Boyd expressing that there is one particular issue that continues to trouble him.
Celtic are far ahead of Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership over the festive period, thanks in part to their dominant 4-0 win over Motherwell.
Brendan Rodgers’ side is in strong form heading into their clash with St Johnstone at Celtic Park tomorrow afternoon. If they secure a win, they will head to Ibrox to face Rangers on January 2nd with a minimum 12-point lead at the top of the league.
The rout against Motherwell began when Hyunjun Yang was taken down by the Motherwell goalkeeper, with the referee correctly awarding a penalty.
However, it was the penalty decision that seemed to upset Kris Boyd, who took to his weekly podcast to make a childish comment about the Celtic winger.
Boyd’s Criticism of Celtic’s Penalty Against Motherwell
Yang made a well-timed run ahead of the goalkeeper after a perfect cross from Paulo Bernardo. Both the referee and VAR rightly agreed that a penalty was deserved, and Arne Engels converted to start Celtic’s comfortable victory.
Yet, Boyd seemed to take issue with Yang’s reaction to the challenge. On his podcast, he said, “Yeah, well, you know, it was a penalty to Celtic as well. There will be many people moaning about that. I just hope Yang’s okay. Looked a real sore one. Looked a real sore one. I hope he’s okay.”
The suggestion that the penalty was wrongly awarded won’t be overlooked by many Celtic supporters, but it was Boyd’s unnecessary remark about Yang that deserves more attention.
Celtic’s Unique Angle Shows Yang Was Fouled Against Motherwell
Regardless of whether Yang exaggerated the challenge or not, Celtic’s Unique Angle footage clearly shows that contact was made with the winger.
Only Yang can confirm if the challenge had enough force to justify his reaction. However, Boyd’s repeated issues with similar incidents involving Celtic, especially when he rarely criticizes other players—particularly from his former club—suggests a bias.
Boyd should strive for impartiality, or at least consistently call out exaggerated reactions across the board, rather than making cheap jabs at Celtic players.
