“Ange Postecoglou Drops Bombshell Admission After Tottenham ‘Pay the Price’ in Shocking Wolves Draw
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou expressed disappointment after his team was held to a 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Wolves took an early lead through Hwang Hee-chan, who converted a well-executed free-kick routine in the 7th minute. Tottenham quickly responded, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading in an equalizer from a corner five minutes later. Spurs then took the lead in first-half stoppage time, as Dejan Kulusevski set up Brennan Johnson to slot the ball home, just moments after Son Heung-Min had his penalty saved by Wolves goalkeeper José Sá.
Tottenham seemed poised to secure all three points, but Jørgen Strand Larsen scored a late equalizer in the 87th minute, leaving the match tied. The result extended Vítor Pereira’s unbeaten start as Wolves manager.
Despite the draw, Postecoglou was frustrated, feeling that his team should have claimed victory, especially given Wolves’ lack of offensive threat.
“[It was a] disappointing outcome,” the 59-year-old manager said in an interview with the BBC. “It’s a game we should have put to bed a lot earlier. After going a goal behind, we had chances. We scored twice, but we could have gotten a third, and at 2-1, the game is always in the balance. They weren’t creating much—Fraser Forster hardly had a save to make—but then they score, and from our perspective, it’s a disappointing result. Both of their goals were good strikes, and we paid the price.”
Both teams recorded three shots on target, with Spurs having 13 attempts compared to Wolves’ 11.
Postecoglou also faced defensive challenges, with backup defender Radu Drăgușin partnering 18-year-old midfielder Archie Gray at center-back. Tottenham suffered another injury setback when Destiny Udogie was forced off just five minutes into the second half.
Wolves’ new manager Pereira remains unbeaten after the draw, having won his first two games 3-0 and 2-0 against Leicester City and Manchester United, respectively. The Portuguese coach has helped revitalize the club, lifting them out of the relegation zone, now sitting 17th with 16 points, just two points ahead of 18th-placed Leicester.
