“I believe Clement is under significant pressure, to be honest. When I look at the situation, I’d say he’s fortunate for two reasons that are keeping him at the club reasons i don’t think the angry Rangers fans would agree with.”- Pundit names only reason Philippe Clement has not yet been sacked by Rangers

Many believe Philippe Clement’s position as Rangers manager is precarious, with his job potentially hanging by a thread.

The Belgian narrowly avoided back-to-back defeats against St Mirren and Motherwell, and the comeback to secure a draw with the Steelmen might have just saved him. It’s rare for Rangers managers to survive consecutive poor performances, especially when the club is already trailing in the title race.

Hamza Igamane’s double at Fir Park earned Rangers a point, and while this result is far from ideal, it at least shows some positives, demonstrating that the players are still fighting for both the manager and the club.

With Celtic next up on Thursday, the team will need to show similar determination again.

Rangers fans have turned against Clement, urging the new CEO, Patrick Stewart, to act as the manager’s position is now seen as “untenable.”

Clement himself acknowledges that the club’s board needs to make a decision regarding his future after being questioned about the possibility of losing his job.

Kris Boyd has heavily criticized the Belgian, claiming his reliance on sports science advice when selecting his team could cost him his position.

Meanwhile, Ross McCormack believes Clement is under “severe pressure.” The former Rangers player thinks the manager might have already been dismissed if not for two factors.

Firstly, the comeback against Motherwell, earning a draw instead of a loss, and secondly, the upcoming Old Firm derby, which may have saved his job for the time being. McCormack shared his views on the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast, saying: “I think he’s under severe pressure. If it wasn’t for the Old Firm game, they could have made a change after the Motherwell match. But I don’t think they would do that before such a crucial game—it would cause too much disruption.”

He continued, adding that despite the disappointing result, there are positives to be drawn from the team’s fightback: “Rangers fans won’t like to hear it, but getting a draw from 2-0 down against Motherwell offers more positives than a loss would have.”

Clement, however, remains resolute about his future. After the Motherwell match, he said: “I’m not concerned. I’m only focused on the team, and we knew this season would be challenging. It’s difficult to speak about because people outside might not understand. But there has been progress. The last two games weren’t good, I admit, and we hurt ourselves in that way. However, there have been good performances in recent weeks showing the potential of the team.

“There are teams interested in some of our players for the future, something we didn’t have in the last two years. So, we are making progress, though I understand that cannot be discussed after dropping points against St Mirren and Motherwell.

“We hurt ourselves with individual mistakes, and the opponents capitalized on those. We need to work hard in the next few days to be more resilient and determined in our defensive actions. That’s one aspect of the game, and of course, we must also demonstrate what we showed in the cup final with the ball.”
