Sean Dyche shared his thoughts following Everton’s 1-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth.
The Toffees once again struggled in attack, failing to register a single shot on target as David Brooks scored the only goal of the match in the 77th minute. With just 15 goals from 19 Premier League games this season, Everton’s lack of scoring continues to be a significant issue, leaving them only two points above the relegation zone. Dyche suggested that the failure to score against Bournemouth was due to individuals not taking their chances when it mattered.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Dyche said: “It was a very tight game. In the first half, we weren’t at our best, so I made some changes. We had a stronger performance in the second half and created more opportunities. Taking our chances has been an issue since I arrived, and it was the same today, particularly in those key moments when players try to pass the ball rather than shoot.
“Looking at the goalscoring records before I joined, this has been an ongoing problem. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but players who can score goals cost a lot of money. You have to develop a system, but ultimately, it comes down to individuals when the key moment arrives.”
Everton were forced to make an early substitution after Armando Broja sustained an injury, and Dyche made a double change at halftime, bringing on Nathan Patterson and Harrison Armstrong for Orel Mangala and Jesper Lindstrom, with the latter also picking up a knock.
Dyche added: “We’ll have to wait and see on Armando. He went to shoot and twisted himself after hitting the floor. Jesper Lindstrom also picked up a knock.”
