Liam Kelly is “really angry” after Rangers’ failure to capitalize on their huge Old Firm win, blaming themselves for dropping points against Hibernian.
The Rangers goalkeeper was forced to pick the ball out of the net three times as his side squandered a Hamza Igamane-inspired lead, allowing Hibs to draw 3-3 at Easter Road.
This result means Rangers could fall 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race by the end of the day.
Speaking to Rangers TV, Kelly expressed his frustration: “I’m obviously really angry. We scored three goals and still couldn’t win the game. We should never have let that happen. I’m really disappointed and frustrated with conceding three goals. We need to be so much better defensively.”
Rangers had a two-goal lead until Martin Boyle reduced the deficit in the 33rd minute. Kelly admitted that allowing Hibs to get back into the game before halftime gave them a boost.
“We gave them their first goal, and they had no life before that,” he said. “We were completely in control, dominating, and strong in the game. But that first goal was terrible, and it gave them momentum and hope.”
“We’ve only got ourselves to blame. It wasn’t good enough. We should never score three goals and not win.”
