Smyth expressed doubts, suggesting that even with promotion, the 49ers owners might reconsider Farke’s position. He noted that the gap in quality between the Championship and the Premier League could lead them to reassess the situation. Smyth also mentioned the transfer disagreements from the summer and a section of fans who remain unsatisfied with Farke’s leadership, pointing to lingering concerns over his failure to secure promotion last season and the entertainment value of the team’s performances.
“There’s always external pressures on a manager, and owners often take note of that noise,” Smyth added.
Farke’s Contract and Premier League Record Farke is aiming for his third promotion from the Championship, having previously guided Norwich City to the title in 2019 and 2021. However, his record in the Premier League is a cause for concern. In 49 Premier League games with Norwich, Farke won just six, losing 35 and conceding 101 goals, which raises inevitable questions about his ability to manage in the top flight.
Leeds signed Farke to a four-year contract in the summer of 2023, suggesting the club’s intention to support him if they gain promotion this season. However, the challenges he faced at Norwich, particularly the club’s poor investment and recruitment, were different from what Leeds might experience, as the latter are expected to have more financial backing and more strategic recruitment.
