“Gary Lineker Shocks Fans by Revealing His Favourite Leicester City Goal – And It’s NOT Vardy’s

Gary Lineker has always been outspoken about his love for Leicester City.

A lifelong supporter of the club, Lineker came through their academy and became a Leicester legend before enjoying a successful career that took him to Everton, Barcelona, and the England national team.

Now, in addition to his football punditry role on Match of the Day, Lineker is also hosting The Rest is Football podcast, where he joins Alan Shearer and Micah Richards to discuss football from around the world and host Q&A sessions with fans.

Recently, Lineker expressed his desire for Leicester to sign a centre-back in the transfer window, while Shearer and Richards predicted the Foxes could face relegation.

In their latest episode, the trio were asked to name their favorite goal scored by the club they support. For Lineker, the answer was clear.

Gary Lineker Names Youri Tielemans’ FA Cup Winner as His Favourite Leicester City Goal

While Lineker could have chosen from many memorable goals, including some of his own, one goal stood out above the rest.

On May 15, 2021, Leicester won their first-ever FA Cup, defeating Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley. The goal came from Youri Tielemans, who took advantage of a ricocheted clearance and fired a stunning shot into the top corner, securing Leicester’s historic win.

For Lineker, it was an easy choice. “You’re not going to better that, I’m sorry,” he said passionately.

“The occasion was huge. It was Leicester’s first FA Cup win. It was beautiful.”

What Youri Tielemans Said About His FA Cup Winner for Leicester City

Tielemans’ goal was one of the greatest in Leicester’s history, as well as one of the most memorable in FA Cup final history. The victory ended the club’s long wait for the trophy, after losing four previous finals.

The Belgian, Leicester’s record signing, scored many memorable goals during his time at the club, but none were more significant than this one.

“What a moment,” Tielemans reflected. “I can’t think of a better goal than this one. I’ve scored a few for Leicester, but nothing like this, and it was special to do it in the cup final.”

Tielemans also dedicated the goal to Leicester’s owner, Khun Top, and his late father. “I did it for all of the Leicester fans, and I’m looking up and see Khun Top there, and I did it for him and his father too.”
