BAD NEWS”- Everton star stretchered off and receives oxygen following serious Injury Vs Peterborough United
Everton striker Armando Broja was stretchered off the pitch after appearing to suffer a serious ankle injury.
Broja came on as a substitute in the second half of Everton’s FA Cup third-round match against Peterborough United on Thursday night. The Albania international went down awkwardly while chasing a ball along the flank late in the game.
After a seven-minute stoppage, during which multiple physios and medical staff attended to him, Broja was given oxygen and carried off on a stretcher, receiving applause from the crowd at Goodison Park.
“Armando Broja is so unlucky with injuries,” said Martin Keown on BBC co-commentary. “He has previously torn his ACL and was out for a long time. Since arriving at Everton, he has been plagued by injuries.”
“He doesn’t look well, and it seems like he’s done something serious to that ankle. They’re giving him oxygen.” Broja collapsed in pain in the 84th minute after a Peterborough defender slid in to win the ball. He appeared to twist his knee before landing awkwardly on the ground. The match continued as the referee didn’t need to stop play for a head injury.
Once the ball went out of play, Everton’s medical team rushed onto the field to assist Broja. This was only his sixth appearance of the season for Everton, as he has been struggling with injuries.
Everton shared a message on Twitter, saying: “Our thoughts are with you, Armando.”
Broja missed the entire 2022/23 season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament. After loan spells at Southampton and Fulham, he joined Everton on loan from Chelsea in August.
Everton won the match 2-0, with a first-half goal from Beto and a 97th-minute penalty by Illiman Ndiaye. It was an eventful evening for the home side, who were managed by Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman after Sean Dyche was sacked just three hours before the match.
