“Is Patrick Bamford Leaving Leeds? Wrexham Boss Drops Major Hint About His Future
Currently, only six players at Leeds United remain who played under the legendary Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road: Illan Meslier, Dan James, Junior Firpo, Joe Gelhardt, Pascal Struijk, and Patrick Bamford.
By the time February arrives, could that number drop to five? Speculation around the future of Leeds’ long-serving striker continues, despite Daniel Farke’s efforts to quell the rumors in the media.
Bamford has been linked with a move to Serie A’s Genoa, along with potential transfers to League One sides Birmingham City and Wrexham. Given the kind of acquisitions Wrexham has been focusing on since the arrival of owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Bamford seems like a fitting addition to Phil Parkinson’s squad.
Wrexham’s roster includes experienced players like Steven Fletcher, James McClean, and Matty James, as well as several EFL veterans. With a 17-goal Premier League season on his resume at Leeds, Bamford could seamlessly fit into Wrexham’s setup.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson addressed the possibility of new signings, stating that although the club is always looking for players who can improve the team, the return of Jack Marriott would reduce the need for additional forwards. Marriott, who scored five goals in 10 League One matches before an injury in October, is expected back soon. With Marriott, Fletcher, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, and Paul Mullen available, Parkinson will have ample attacking options.
While some argue that you can never have too many goalscorers, Parkinson emphasized the importance of maintaining squad harmony. He also mentioned that the club is constantly in contact with other clubs and agents, looking for opportunities to add quality players to their ranks if it could give them a boost for the rest of the season.
On the other hand, despite injuries having slowed Bamford’s impact, Daniel Farke still sees him as a valuable asset for Leeds United’s promotion push. Although Bamford has struggled to secure a regular starting spot this season, Farke remains confident that a fit Bamford can contribute to Leeds’ goalscoring efforts as they chase promotion.
However, Bamford’s significant wages could present a challenge, potentially pricing him out of a move to Wrexham. Reports suggest that Leeds is open to offers for Bamford, but they are not desperate to sell. The club is focused on promotion and maintaining a positive environment, with Bamford being a key figure in the squad, unlike other players causing disruption. Leeds would consider selling, but they are not urgently trying to part ways with him.
