The deal for Le Fee seems almost finalized, with the French midfielder now in Sunderland for medical tests ahead of his loan move from Roma. On Thursday evening, Le Fee was seen traveling to Sunderland after the club agreed to a loan arrangement, which includes a £20 million obligation to buy if Sunderland earns promotion to the Premier League.
Le Fee’s arrival certainly boosts the club’s promotion hopes, but additional signings will be necessary to challenge teams like Leeds United, Burnley, and Sheffield United in the second half of the season.
Kristjaan Speakman could be looking to add another forward, with several names circulating ahead of January. One player mentioned is Aston Villa’s Louie Barry, who is valued at £7 million.
Alex Neil Comments on Millwall’s Interest in Louie Barry
This week, it was revealed that Millwall has entered the race for Barry, who remains with Aston Villa but is expected to leave either on loan or permanently during the transfer window. Millwall has also appointed former Sunderland manager Alex Neil, who addressed the rumors linking his team to Barry.
Neil downplayed Millwall’s interest in Barry, stating that no imminent transfers are expected at The Den. He explained: “Louie Barry is just another player that has been brought back from his loan at Stockport by Aston Villa, hence the speculation with us and probably other Championship clubs. Right now, we’re not expecting anyone to walk through the door tomorrow morning. It’s all just speculation.”
Louie Barry: A Great Fit for Sunderland
Barry is versatile, capable of playing on both wings, particularly the left, as well as up front. Even with Romaine Mundle and Tommy Watson returning, there’s likely a place for Barry in Sunderland’s setup. The same applies to Le Fee’s arrival, which adds to an already strong midfield including players like Dan Neil, Chris Rigg, and Jobe Bellingham.
EFL expert Ali Maxwell believes Barry would be an excellent fit for Sunderland, drawing parallels between Barry and Jack Clarke. Maxwell stated, “I think Sunderland would be a great destination for Barry. He is the closest thing to Jack Clarke, and I believe he would thrive there.”
