“Not On card”- Vitor Pereira dealt huge transfer blow as move for key Wolves target now ‘not on the cards’
Wolves fans have seen how quickly the transfer window can shift, with players moving in all directions. Just last week, Vitor Pereira expressed interest in Reims centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou, and now the Ivorian is Wolves’ first signing of January 2025.
Agbadou has signed a 4.5-year contract after completing a reported £15m transfer, arriving as an exciting addition to the squad. However, this deal won’t be the last, as Wolves are reportedly targeting another defender.
Recently, reports emerged linking Wolves with Chelsea’s Renato Veiga, a rumour later confirmed by journalist Liam Keen. But now, Pereira’s hopes of signing the 21-year-old have been dashed after Chelsea rejected Wolves’ approach.
Renato Veiga Transfer ‘Not on the Cards’
Earlier on Friday, Keen had suggested that Veiga could become a primary defensive target for Wolves after Agbadou’s arrival. However, transfer news moves quickly, and respected journalist Ben Jacobs has since revealed that a deal for the Portuguese international is now “not on the cards” after Chelsea turned down Wolves’ approach.
Whether Wolves had enquired about a loan or permanent deal remains unclear, but losing out on Veiga is certainly a blow. The versatile 21-year-old, praised by Enzo Maresca, can play as a centre-back, wing-back, or central midfielder, making him an attractive option for Pereira. However, with the move now off the table, Pereira will need to turn his attention elsewhere.
Other Defensive Targets for Wolves
Despite this setback, Wolves continue to target other defensive options in the early stages of the transfer window. Kevin Danso was reportedly Pereira’s top target, but the 26-year-old Austrian turned down the move. Wolves, however, are still hopeful of signing Danso and won’t give up on their pursuit.
The club has also looked to the EFL, showing interest in Japhet Tanganga, the talented centre-back currently at Millwall. Additionally, Wolves have considered Auxerre’s 23-year-old Clement Akpa as another potential bargain from Ligue 1.
While losing out on Veiga is disappointing, it’s clear that Wolves have a long list of defensive targets and will continue their search for the right addition.
