“mentality monsters”- Chris Sutton makes immediate Rangers dig after Celtic win
Chris Sutton has aimed a sharp jab at Rangers after Celtic’s 4-1 victory over Ross County in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.
The former Celtic striker referred to his team as “mentality monsters” who don’t complain about injuries following the win on January 11, seemingly taking aim at Rangers and manager Philippe Clement.
Clement has faced a series of injury problems this season, including a recent crisis in the centre-back position, which he acknowledged in a press conference on January 8.
Sutton posted on his personal X account (January 11): “Another big three points for mentality monsters Celtic. No moaning about injuries. Just getting on with it. Encouraging performance from Yang. Kyogo sublime.”
While Rangers have shown flashes of good form recently, inconsistency has frustrated their supporters. After their defeat of Celtic, Clement’s side dropped points against Hibernian and Dundee in the Scottish Premiership, leaving them 18 points behind Celtic in the standings.
Rangers’ woes have been compounded by Sterling’s recent injury at Easter Road on January 5. Clement was already missing key players like John Souttar, Leon Balogun, James Tavernier, and Neraysho Kasanwirjo, and had to rely on Clinton Nsiala in the loss to Dundee on January 9.
With Nsiala, Propper, and Leon King as his only available central defenders, Clement faces a difficult task. However, King’s future at the club appears uncertain.
Rangers will face St Johnstone at Ibrox on Sunday, January 12, and are in desperate need of a win, regardless of who is available.
Although CEO Patrick Stewart has expressed support for Clement, the manager is already facing a backlash from the fans.
