Tam McManus believes that Rangers could part ways with Philippe Clement if they fail to defeat Aberdeen on Wednesday.
The team will face the Dons at Ibrox on January 15, and despite mounting pressure, the Belgian coach still holds his position. Currently, Rangers find themselves a staggering 15 points behind league leaders Celtic in the SPFL standings.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer, McManus said: “If they don’t win on Wednesday, we could see Clement lose his job. He’s stuck to the same game plan all season, saying we’re a work in progress and that we don’t have much money. But I don’t think managers are given long-term projects, especially at Rangers, so he has to keep winning.
“If he keeps winning, he’ll buy himself more time, but he’s one result away from being sacked, and that could be Wednesday night.”
Even if Rangers were to win on Wednesday, there is growing debate over whether Clement should remain in charge. His poor away form and the fact that they are 15 points behind Celtic by January would be enough to prompt most clubs to make a change.
Despite the situation, Clement’s position has so far been safe, even with changes at the board level. Patrick Stewart has mentioned the need for better results, but has yet to see any significant improvement throughout the season.
The real concern for Rangers has been their poor form on the road, not at home. It is unclear what criteria the board is using to make decisions, but it is essential they have potential replacements lined up should they choose to part ways with Clement.
