Liverpool were held to a draw by Nottingham Forest, failing to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.
Diogo Jota’s late equalizer earned a point for the Reds at the City Ground, preventing Liverpool from moving nine points clear at the summit. Despite the point, Jamie Carragher was critical of Liverpool’s defending, as the team struggled at times against Forest, who sit second in the league after 21 matches.
However, Arne Slot was impressed with one aspect of Liverpool’s performance against Forest.
Slot Praises Liverpool’s Chance Creation
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Slot praised Liverpool’s second-half display, particularly as they became the team to break Forest’s long-standing defensive record. Forest had gone over 700 minutes without conceding a Premier League goal before Liverpool scored.
“I couldn’t have asked for more,” Slot said. “The second-half performance was outstanding. Not many teams can create as many chances against a team that’s so defensively strong, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get a second goal.”
“We were definitely better than the last time we played Forest. If we continue to perform like we did in the second half, we won’t always be unlucky to finish with a draw.”
Liverpool’s Upcoming Fixtures
Liverpool may have already faced their toughest fixture of the month with tonight’s draw against in-form Forest, but challenges remain. Next, they will travel to west London to face Brentford, who maintained their impressive home record with a 2-2 draw against Manchester City.
With games against Ipswich Town and two crucial UEFA Champions League group stage matches on the horizon, Liverpool will need to be at their best to navigate the remainder of January in strong form.
