Simon Jordan has questioned the notion that David Moyes knows Everton Football Club well, despite his previous 11-year tenure at Goodison Park. Moyes left the club in 2013, and his return to Merseyside has been widely romanticized. However, Jordan remains skeptical about his potential success.
Speaking on talkSPORT on January 15, Jordan remarked, “David going back to Everton… I’m not so sure. They say you should never return. I’m not convinced he’ll be successful.”
Jordan further emphasized the changes at the club since Moyes’ departure, noting, “The mood will change, and people might see him as a savior, but the club has changed. It’s been 20 years since he left, and while the fans may still have the same passion, the culture is different now.”
Jordan believes the club is no longer the same one Moyes once knew, stating, “All this talk of ‘Moyes knows’—it’s a different club now.”
Can David Moyes guide Everton away from relegation?
Everton has never been relegated from the Premier League, and Moyes would surely be devastated to become the first manager to lead the club out of the top division since 1954. After 19 matches, the Toffees are just one point above the relegation zone, with their position precarious.
Moyes faces a challenging schedule ahead, with upcoming matches against Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Brighton. He must act swiftly to address Everton’s issues, particularly in attack, where the club has struggled. Only Southampton has scored fewer goals than Everton this season, and key players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto, and Armando Broja have been out of form.
With Dwight McNeil still sidelined, players such as Iliman Ndiaye, Jesper Lindstrom, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Jack Harrison will need to step up if Moyes hopes to secure Premier League survival for the Toffees.
