Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has expressed his belief that Ange Postecoglou appears “really alone” at Tottenham and is likely to be dismissed, with the players currently “miserable.”
Postecoglou has seemed isolated in recent matches, and it’s not surprising that a defeat to rivals Arsenal only emphasized this. Tottenham took the lead at the Emirates with Heung-min Son’s goal, but Arsenal equalized within 15 minutes and then took the lead just before halftime, with the match finishing 2-1 in Arsenal’s favor.
The result leaves Spurs in 13th place in the Premier League, and the calls for Postecoglou’s dismissal are growing louder. Petit, a former Arsenal player, suggested that parting ways with the manager could be beneficial for both him and the team, given the current circumstances.
“I was watching Ange Postecoglou and he must be feeling really alone on the pitch tonight,” Petit told talkSPORT. “I think things are probably coming to an end for him. Something has to change.
“We can see the league, we can see the players’ faces tonight—they look miserable, and nobody seems to be themselves. Something needs to change at Spurs, and I believe he’ll be sacked.
“Look at the players on the pitch, look at Son—he was amazing for five years. [James] Maddison was fantastic last season, but what’s happened to him? Something is broken in this team, and you can’t sack all the players. The easiest decision is to let the manager go.
“I don’t enjoy saying this, and I feel for Postecoglou, but he deserves to be sacked because they’re losing game after game. Change has to happen.”
