“Ange Postecoglou Drops Major Update: Injured Tottenham Star Set to Make Shock Return Against Everton
Ange Postecoglou has provided an update on the fitness of Tottenham defender Ben Davies ahead of their Premier League match against Everton on Sunday.
Tottenham suffered their 11th Premier League defeat of the season on Wednesday, losing 2-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates. With tensions rising, Postecoglou urgently needs a victory against Everton at Goodison Park on January 19, with Gary Neville making a “stupid” remark ahead of the clash.
If Spurs lose to the Toffees, it is widely expected that Postecoglou’s job will be on the line. However, the Australian will be hopeful of having Davies back in the squad, stating before the trip to Everton [via Football London, 17 January], “Ben Davies should be involved.”
Davies has been sidelined since Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on December 5. Since then, Postecoglou has had to rely on Archie Gray – who has reportedly attracted interest from Real Madrid [via Fichajes, 12 January] – and Radu Drăgușin as his centre-back partnership.
The Welsh defender last played a full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Fulham on December 1, where he showed his importance to the team. According to Sofascore, Davies completed 97% of his passes, made seven clearances, four interceptions, and blocked three shots. He was also accurate with three of his four long balls and demonstrated composure on the ball, giving possession away only twice, a quality that has been lacking at Spurs recently.
Postecoglou will be hoping that Davies can start, or at least make an impact, in the crucial match at Goodison Park.
