“Disastrous”- BBC Radio Sheff Commentator to what he saw in Leeds United Vs Sheff Wed
Rob Staton described Sheffield Wednesday’s start to the match as “disastrous” after Leeds United took the lead just three minutes into the game. Manor Solomon scored early, capitalizing on a mistake from Wednesday goalkeeper James Beadle, who appeared shaky and parried the ball straight into Solomon’s path.
The Whites secured a 3-0 victory at Elland Road on Sunday (19 January), with Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka adding goals in the 88th and 96th minutes, respectively, keeping Leeds at the top of the Championship.
During the live broadcast on BBC Radio Sheffield (19 January, 12:07), Staton criticized the Owls’ poor start, stating: “It’s a disastrous start so far for Sheffield Wednesday. It’s a simple ball into the box, and James Beadle comes out and spills it straight to Leeds. He should have kept hold of it. You have to be able to deal with those straightforward balls into the box, and if you come for the ball, you need to catch it. Definitely not part of the plan for Wednesday.”
Leeds United’s win over Sheffield Wednesday Wednesday handed Leeds an ideal start, and while Beadle should have done better to catch the ball, Daniel Farke would not have been concerned about how the goal came. Although Leeds struggled to capitalize on their early lead, they managed to maintain a one-goal advantage at halftime, likely hoping for a more comfortable margin.
In the second half, Ramazani added to Leeds’ tally after demonstrating persistence to maintain possession and find the net, effectively sealing the win. Tanaka then struck again just before the final whistle, securing the 3-0 result.
The victory kept Leeds firmly at the top of the table, and Farke will be pleased with the three points. Looking ahead, Leeds face a trip to Norwich on Wednesday (22 January), where Farke will return to his former club in hopes of building on the win and stringing together a series of victories.
