“Horrible”- Rangers player slammed live on BBC for ‘horrible’ Ibrox moment v Fraserburgh
Mason Munn faced criticism from Stephen McGinn for a “horrible” mistake during Rangers’ 5-0 win over Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup.
The young goalkeeper was given a start in the match at Ibrox on Sunday (19 January), where he kept a clean sheet overall. However, he nearly cost Rangers with a sloppy error in the first half.
After Munn gave the ball away to the opposition, McGinn reacted live on BBC Radio Scotland [19 January, 2:54pm]: “It’s a horrible mistake from Munn, who passes straight to Scott Barbour. What a chance that is.”
Rangers seal victory over Fraserburgh The Ibrox crowd fell silent as Barbour had a golden opportunity to equalize after Cyriel Dessers’ opening goal, but he failed to convert, and couldn’t pass the ball to a teammate either.
Had Fraserburgh scored, the mood at half-time would have been much different. Instead, Dessers, who also missed a clear chance, netted two more goals, with Clinton Nsiala and Ross McCausland also getting on the scoresheet.
Despite the first-half error, Munn’s performance was largely solid, though Fraserburgh didn’t offer much in attack. The 18-year-old will be pleased with his clean sheet in what was a rare start, knowing his position in the team’s hierarchy. It was a valuable opportunity for him to showcase his abilities at Ibrox.
Rangers are now through to the next round, which is the most important outcome for Philippe Clement on the day. This is a competition the Gers must aim to win this season to avoid disappointment, aside from a potential deep European run. The focus is now on the upcoming draw for the next round.
