Wolverhampton Wanderers have made just one signing during the January transfer window, acquiring Emmanuel Agbadou from Rennes to strengthen their defensive options under Vitor Pereira.
The club also seemed close to securing a deal for Manu Silva last week, but Benfica swooped in at the last moment, derailing the move.
With just over a week remaining in the window, Pereira will be looking to add one or two more players, especially as Wolves find themselves in a precarious position near the bottom of the Premier League standings.
More critically, Wolves are determined to hold on to several key players in their bid for survival. Left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri often attracts interest, but it is Matheus Cunha who is drawing the most attention.
Cunha has been one of the few bright spots for Wolves this season, and losing him now would almost certainly make their survival fight even harder.
Wolves must keep Matheus Cunha In his 21 Premier League appearances this season, Cunha has scored 10 goals and provided four assists. Of the 32 goals Wolves have scored this season, Cunha has been directly involved in 44% of them, underscoring his importance to the team’s fight against relegation.
Convincing Cunha to stay may be a challenge, especially with larger clubs likely to bid for the former Atlético Madrid forward. According to Sky Sports, Nottingham Forest is prepared to make a club-record offer for Cunha, with Arsenal also reportedly interested.
A bid around £60 million might tempt Pereira to sell, but this would leave little time for finding a replacement.
While Wolves raised over £90 million last summer through the sales of Pedro Neto and Max Kilman, they are in no rush to offload Cunha despite the interest. The £60,000-per-week forward is expected to stay unless something extraordinary happens in the next few days, and Pereira will do his best to ensure that.
One player who could be sold, however, is Fabio Silva, currently on loan at Las Palmas in Spain.

Silva’s first two seasons at Wolves yielded just four goals in the Premier League, failing to justify his hefty price tag.
After spending the 2022/23 season on loan at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven, where he found some success, Silva was given another chance by Gary O’Neil. However, he didn’t impress and was loaned out again, this time to Glasgow Rangers. His spell at Rangers didn’t go well either, scoring only six goals, which led to criticism from some fans and pundits.
Silva joined Las Palmas in the summer and has since shown improvement, including goals against Spain’s top teams. This has increased his chances of moving to Atletico Madrid.
Pereira should consider offers for Silva, particularly since he earns a hefty £80,000 per week at Wolves, which is £20,000 more than Cunha. Given the current contributions of both players, it’s clear who deserves the higher wage.
If Cunha stays, Wolves will have a better chance of avoiding relegation, with the possibility of considering offers for him in the summer when there is more time to find a replacement.
Selling Silva could also generate funds to accelerate the club’s transfer plans, with his current form in La Liga increasing his market value. With just 18 months left on his contract, this summer may be Wolves’ last opportunity to sell him for a significant fee.
