Sunderland have been linked with a potential move for Preston North End striker Emil Riis Jakobsen during the transfer window.
The 26-year-old, whose contract expires in six months, has attracted attention from Sunderland, with sporting director Kristjaan Speakman eager to strengthen the squad’s attacking options in support of their promotion ambitions.
Jakobsen, who has been with Preston since 2020, has scored 41 goals across all competitions for the Championship club. The Denmark-born forward began his career at Randers in Denmark and has netted 59 goals in total during his career.
Sunderland are reportedly looking to add another striker to their ranks to support Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda, especially after sending Ukrainian forward Nazariy Rusyn out on loan to Croatian side Hajduk Split.
However, BBC’s Nick Barnes offered his perspective on the speculation earlier this week.
“I don’t think this is their top priority,” Barnes said on BBC Radio Newcastle’s Total Sport show with Simon Pride. “Jakobsen is on the radar, but he’s not their main target.
His contract is up in the summer, and much of the interest seems to be coming from his agent and the club pushing for a deal. You’ve got to consider factors like that when assessing these links.”
