Tottenham’s defeat to struggling Leicester City saw Spurs fans turn on chairman Daniel Levy, but manager Ange Postecoglou admitted that many people have lost patience with him.
Postecoglou acknowledged that Tottenham’s season had reached a low point and conceded that he may not have enough time to turn things around.
Despite being in contention for three cup competitions, Spurs’ league form has drastically dropped, with just one win in their last 11 games.
Postecoglou reflected: “This is as low as we’ve been so far this year, but I still believe we can achieve something special in the final three months of the season, and the players share that belief.”
When asked whether he would be given more time as key players recover from injury, Postecoglou said, “Who knows? A fair chunk of people will likely say no. Being a manager at a football club can make you feel vulnerable, but I don’t feel isolated.
The players are giving everything, and my staff is fully committed. I focus on that.”
He added, “Is there anything I can say to change things tomorrow? No. Where we are in the league is unacceptable.
It’s a reflection of my coaching, but we still have great opportunities ahead this season.
Some will judge us based on our current position, and rightly so. It’s not good enough, but I remain convinced the players are giving everything they have.”
Postecoglou also pointed out that despite some players pushing through injuries to help the team, he is hopeful that getting key players back in the coming weeks will provide the boost they need.
While the fan frustration was directed at Levy rather than Postecoglou and the team, the Spurs boss shared his desire to unify the club: “When I took on this role, I aimed to create an environment where we’re all focused on the same goal.
It hasn’t worked out that way. I understand the fans’ frustration, and we need their support, especially at home to create the right atmosphere.”
Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, whose team ended a seven-match losing streak with the victory, expressed relief: “After last week’s performance, I held the players accountable, but they responded well.
Even when we went 1-0 down, they stayed calm. This win was much needed after all the hard work put in.”
