“Known as the ‘young Lionel Messi’ – Nottingham Forest are reportedly keen to sign the sensational 17-year-old ace, whose talent was once compared to Lionel Messi by former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Nottingham Forest are looking to strengthen their squad and are being linked with several players, including Marcus Edwards.

The transfer link between Nottingham Forest and the 26-year-old winger has resurfaced, with reports from Portugal suggesting that Sporting Lisbon may be willing to compromise in order to secure a deal this transfer window.

According to A Bola, Sporting would prefer to sell Edwards outright for around €10 million, as he has been dropped from both the starting lineup and more recently the squad in recent league matches.

Despite his 120 appearances for the club, it seems the winger is set to depart Estádio José Alvalade, with Besiktas also reportedly interested. However, it appears Sporting may now have to accept a loan deal to ease their financial situation.

Edwards, originally from Enfield, began his career at Tottenham Hotspur, where former manager Mauricio Pochettino once compared him to a young Lionel Messi due to his style of play. “His qualities… his body and the way he plays remind me a bit of Messi,” Pochettino said in 2016.

After struggling to break into the Spurs first team, Edwards left the club and signed for Vitória de Guimarães in 2019 before moving to Sporting in 2022.

Primarily a left-footed right winger, Edwards is also capable of playing across the forward line. As it stands, Forest are well-stocked in wide positions, with Anthony Elanga, Jota Silva, Ramon Sosa, and Callum Hudson-Odoi all competing for playing time, although Hudson-Odoi is currently sidelined with a groin injury.
