UEFA delegates may include Union Saint-Gilloise defender Kevin Mac Allister in their post-match report following his actions during the game against Rangers, according to former FIFA referee Keith Hackett.
Mac Allister was seen kicking the corner flag into the Ibrox crowd in celebration after a disallowed goal on January 30 (BBC Sportsound, 20:32). Despite this, he faced no immediate punishment as Rangers secured a 2-1 win.
Hackett believes that Mac Allister should have received a yellow card for his actions if they had been noticed by the officials at the time. He also suggested that the incident should have been addressed right away.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Hackett said, “That action should have resulted in at least a yellow card, and the referee should have dealt with it immediately.
There is a UEFA Match Delegate at the game, and he may include it in his post-match report, which could lead to a warning for the player regarding future behavior.”
Although the incident went unnoticed by officials during the match, it could have had serious consequences.
Hackett pointed out that Mac Allister’s actions might have put supporters at risk, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he faced retrospective punishment for the behavior.
Philippe Clement will likely be relieved to secure the important win, especially after another controversial week for officials both domestically and in Europe.
