“Deal Done Imminent”- Rangers are reportedly CLOSING in on a deal for an “EXTREMELY TALENTED” young player, who has been described as a Potential REPLACEMENT for Ianis Hagi. Talks are advancing rapidly, with a deal likely to be announced soon.
The pressure is momentarily off under-fire Rangers manager Philippe Clement, following a crucial victory on Thursday night.
His team secured a place in the Europa League round of 16 with a 2-1 win over Royale Union Saint-Gilloise at Ibrox. Nicolas Raskin opened the scoring with a header, followed by Václav Černý, who netted the decisive second goal shortly after halftime.
Despite facing four of the seven teams that finished above them, Rangers finished the group stage with an impressive 14 points, as noted by Clement.
While their domestic form remains inconsistent, their strong Europa League performances have lifted spirits.
Now, as the January transfer deadline approaches, Rangers are eyeing one of the Scottish Premiership’s most promising young talents.
Rangers in Talks for Dundee’s Lyall Cameron
According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Rangers have entered discussions over a pre-contract agreement with Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron.
With Cameron’s contract expiring in the summer, Rangers would only need to pay compensation for his services.
Dundee manager Tony Docherty has praised the 22-year-old as “extremely talented,” acknowledging that interest is inevitable given his contract situation.
There’s speculation that Rangers may seek to secure the deal in January, with new CEO Patrick Stewart mentioning the club’s intention to “accelerate the signing of a player we were already planning to target.” Could Cameron be the player he’s referring to?
Cameron: A Low-Risk, High-Potential Signing
Speaking on Premier Sports’ Scottish Football Social Club, former Hibs and Hearts midfielder Michael Stewart highlighted Cameron’s potential as a financially low-risk move for Rangers, both in terms of compensation and wages. Scottish football writer Kai Watson also believes that Cameron “has the potential to play at a higher level than the Scottish Premiership.”
Where Cameron Could Fit at Rangers
Cameron, who has been deployed in various midfield roles this season, has particularly excelled in the center of the park. This could make him a useful addition to Rangers, especially considering Ianis Hagi’s uncertain future. Hagi, who has started 11 of the last 12 Premiership matches, is out of contract in the summer, and according to Sky Sports News’ Sahil Jaidka, he has “yet to be offered” a new deal.
Comparing the two, Hagi has played around 1,000 fewer minutes this season due to a long-term injury, which is why he wasn’t included in Rangers’ UEFA squad. While Hagi has scored two goals this season—one against Stenhousemuir in a low-key match and another in a memorable Glasgow derby—Cameron has been more productive, scoring more goals and providing more assists, despite playing for a less dominant side. Rangers average 62.29% possession, while Dundee holds just 45.26%.
With these statistics in mind, Cameron appears ready for a step up and could be an excellent, low-cost addition for Rangers. If Hagi departs, Cameron would be a promising replacement for the Romanian international.
