Wolves are running out of time to strengthen their squad as the January transfer window nears its close, with just two days remaining for manager Vitor Pereira to make any significant additions.
The club, alongside others battling at the bottom of the table, finds itself in a desperate situation.
Pereira had hoped to sign three more players after bringing in Emmanuel Agbadou, but the Ivorian remains the only new arrival so far. In response, Pereira subtly criticized Fosun for their lack of urgency in the transfer market.
Supporters are well aware that the club’s owners are reluctant to make significant investments and seem more focused on offloading assets than bringing in quality talent.
Despite this, the only departure thus far has been Luke Cundle’s £1m move to Millwall on Friday, although Pereira is open to letting more players leave.
Pereira Open to Letting Forbs Go for ‘Quality’ Replacement
One player who could be on his way out is Carlos Forbs, who joined Wolves on loan from Ajax last summer.
Initially seen as an exciting prospect, the 20-year-old has struggled for minutes and has yet to score or assist in his limited time on the pitch, with only 232 minutes of Premier League action to his name.
Ajax is reportedly open to recalling Forbs, and Pereira is willing to let him go—if a suitable replacement is found. “If a player wants to leave because he wants to play more, I respect that,” Pereira said. “But I need a replacement because the squad is very short, and it has to be a quality replacement. If we don’t have that, I can’t let anyone go.”
Pereira is targeting reinforcements in three key areas: winger, centre-back, and midfielder, but time is running out to secure quality additions for each position.
Pereira Remains Optimistic Despite Transfer Struggles
While Wolves have only managed to sign one player so far in a frustrating transfer window, Pereira remains confident that more signings will be made before the deadline. “I’m still confident,” he said. “I feel the club is trying, and I’m pushing. A lot of times it depends on the opportunities in the window.”
