‘Medical done, contract signed’: Brighton beat Liverpool, Tottenham, Bayern Munich to £22m striker signing
Brighton & Hove Albion are set to announce the deadline day signing of highly sought-after Nurnberg striker Stefanos Tzimas.
After spending over £150m last summer and bringing in nine new players, many wondered if Brighton would be as active in the winter transfer window. However, the Seagulls have been busy, securing midfielder Diego Gomez and center-back Eiran Cashin for a combined fee of around £20m. In contrast, Jakub Moder has moved to Feyenoord, and Julio Enciso has joined Ipswich Town on loan.
Additionally, there are reports that Evan Ferguson is nearing a loan move to West Ham United after struggling for consistent game time under manager Fabian Hurzeler this season.
Brighton are known for their savvy transfer dealings, frequently uncovering hidden gems or highly-rated prospects, developing them into first-team stars, and often selling them for a significant profit.
The latest talent on their radar is 19-year-old Stefanos Tzimas, who has netted 10 goals in 17 appearances for Nurnberg in Germany’s second division this season.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tzimas has completed his medical and signed his contract with Brighton, with only official confirmation remaining. The transfer fee is reported to be over £22m, plus add-ons. Tzimas will stay at Nurnberg on loan until June, before joining Brighton in the summer.
Tzimas was initially loaned to Nurnberg from Greek side PAOK, but the German club has now exercised the option to buy him and will sell him to Brighton for the agreed fee.
Brighton are believed to have fended off competition for Tzimas from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, who were also interested in the striker.
In other transfer news, Brighton have had two bids for Sunderland’s teenage winger Tommy Watson rejected, with their most recent offer standing at around £12m.
