New Target: Everton now working to sign £16k-p/w defender for Moyes alongside Alcaraz
Everton are exploring the possibility of signing a new defender to bolster David Moyes’ squad as they aim to maintain their strong Premier League form in the second half of the season, according to a recent report.
Despite securing a third consecutive victory with a dominant 4-1 win over Leicester City, Moyes is eager to strengthen his team before the transfer window closes, particularly after being questioned about the prospect of signing a new striker.
Moyes responded: “I’m not here to say who we’re targeting, but if you asked me, I’d bet we’ve already looked at those options.
There’s always a reason why it hasn’t happened – whether it’s too expensive, not for sale, or something else. It’s easy to ask, but finding the right fit is never straightforward.”
He continued, “Trying to get someone has been difficult, but we’re doing everything we can before the deadline. It’s nice to win a few games, but a couple of losses can quickly change things, so we need to keep pushing.”
One player seemingly close to joining the club is Charly Alcaraz, who will be arriving from Flamengo on an initial loan with an obligation to make the move permanent in the summer.
The former Southampton midfielder will add depth to Moyes’ midfield following the news that Orel Mangala will be out for the rest of the season due to injury.
Everton are also working on another deal for a defender. According to The Daily Mail, they are looking to sign highly-rated Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 23-year-old, who has already made over 150 senior appearances and earned a cap for France, is seen as a potential solution to Everton’s left-back issues.
Truffert, who impressed in the summer Olympics with France, had previously been linked with Manchester United but now appears set to join Everton.
With just 18 months left on his £16,000-a-week contract at Rennes, he could be available for a move. Despite Rennes’ struggles in Ligue 1, Truffert has been a key player for them this season, making 19 appearances.
The report suggests that Everton are working on a loan deal with an option to buy, after missing out on Ben Chilwell.
With financial constraints at the club, loan moves are expected to be the preferred option, and securing Truffert could boost Everton’s hopes of Premier League survival this season under Moyes.
