Done Deal; Rangers hit jackpot with “unbelievable” star who’s worth more than Cameron
The January transfer window officially closed last night, with Glasgow Rangers failing to make any last-minute additions to their squad.
Despite manager Philippe Clement and sporting director Nils Koppen bringing in Rafael Fernandes on loan from Ligue 1 side Lille earlier in the window, they chose not to make any further moves on deadline day.
However, Rangers did announce a new signing, confirming that Dundee’s central midfielder Lyall Cameron will join the club at the end of the season. The 22-year-old has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Gers, as his current contract with Dundee expires this summer.
Lyall Cameron’s Potential Transfer Fee
According to the Daily Record, Rangers may need to pay around £400k in compensation to Dundee, given that Cameron came through their youth ranks.
The report suggests that Rangers will attempt to negotiate a fee with Dundee, avoiding the need for a tribunal, which was necessary when the club paid £700k for Connor Barron from Aberdeen.
Cameron, who has contributed nine direct goal involvements in 23 Premiership appearances this season, has impressed, though Clement already has a wealth of midfield options at his disposal.
Nicolas Raskin’s Market Value
Rangers have already struck gold with one of their midfielders, as Nicolas Raskin is now worth significantly more than the £400k they may need to pay for Cameron.
Currently valued at €6.5m (£5.4m) by Transfermarkt as of February 2024, the 23-year-old Belgian is more than 10 times more valuable than Cameron, despite being just one year older.
Raskin joined Rangers in January 2023 from Standard Liège for a reported €2m (£1.6m), and his market value has skyrocketed since then. His remarkable performances at Ibrox have caused his value to soar, as reflected in his current worth.
This season, Raskin has been in exceptional form for Clement’s side, excelling as a holding midfielder with an average of 3.9 tackles and interceptions per game, while winning 61% of his duels in 21 top-flight appearances. His physicality and dynamism in the middle of the park have been key to his consistency.
With plenty of potential for further development, Raskin’s value is likely to continue rising, making him a fantastic acquisition for Rangers.
