There’s no doubt about it”- Shocking Virgil van Dijk Decision Revealed After Brutal Elbow Clash with Richarlison vs Spurs

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk became involved in an altercation with Tottenham’s Richarlison just two minutes into their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Anfield.

Van Dijk, the Liverpool captain, avoided any disciplinary action after a clash with the Brazilian forward. In the early moments of the match, Richarlison was left on the ground after seemingly being struck by Van Dijk’s arm while competing for the ball.

Referee Craig Pawson, who had a clear view of the incident, allowed play to continue before calling the two players over, as Richarlison was upset by the physicality of the challenge.

The pair briefly tangled again moments later, with Van Dijk bringing down the Spurs forward just outside the penalty area.

According to football.London, the incident was reviewed by the video assistant referee (VAR), who concluded there was no reason to overturn the referee’s decision, clearing Van Dijk of any violent conduct.

Commenting on the incident during ITV’s coverage, Ally McCoist remarked, “I don’t think there’s any doubt they’ll look at it. He definitely raises his arm to fend him off.

It’s a bit aggressive, and there’s an elbow to the chin. It might be just below the chin, but they’ll have a look at that.”

Tottenham entered the second leg with a narrow one-goal lead after Lucas Bergvall’s late strike in the first match. However, Liverpool equalized in the first half through Cody Gakpo’s goal.
