“Chris Sutton’s Prediction Could Mean Disaster for Leeds United Against Millwall
Chris Sutton has predicted that Millwall will defeat Leeds United in the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend.
Leeds will host the London team on Saturday at 12:15 pm, with the winner progressing to the competition’s last 16.
However, Leeds are also in the race for automatic promotion and have a midweek match against Watford to focus on as well.
While Leeds have won four of their last five league games, they might make significant changes to their lineup this weekend to prioritize their push for Premier League promotion.
Sutton pointed to this promotion battle as a key reason why he expects an upset on Saturday.
He believes that Farke will rotate his squad, and that a weakened lineup will not be enough to overcome Alex Neil’s side, predicting a 2-1 win for Millwall.
“This is a tough one to call due to Leeds’ situation,” Sutton wrote for the BBC.
“They are five points clear at the top of the Championship after defeating Coventry on Wednesday, but four teams are vying for the two automatic promotion spots. Promotion is their priority, and I expect manager Daniel Farke to make several changes.
“Although I don’t agree with this approach, I can understand it.
“I’d love to see Leeds give the FA Cup a real go, but they play Watford in the Championship next Tuesday.
“Their schedule is relentless, and the financial rewards of promotion – or the consequences of missing out – are enormous.
“Farke isn’t the only former Norwich manager in this match – Alex Neil is an astute coach who has Millwall on a solid run, having won their last three games to put them near the playoff spots.
“I’ve thought a lot about this, but I’m backing Millwall to pull off an upset.
“They’ve already beaten Leeds this season at The Den in November, and Leeds have only lost one of their 18 matches since.
“However, this prediction is based more on the team I expect Leeds to field, as I believe Farke will be more inclined to field a weakened side than Neil will.”
The winner will enter the fifth round draw, which takes place on Monday evening.
Millwall could prove tricky for Leeds Millwall have already posed problems for Leeds this season and can be a tough opponent when on form.
The Lions will likely be motivated for the match and will relish the opportunity to knock out a higher-ranked team.
If Leeds rest key players, which seems likely with their Tuesday match against Watford, Millwall could see it as a chance to take advantage.
That said, Leeds have a strong squad, so regardless of Farke’s team selection, this game could turn out to be a tight contest.
