Just In; Leicester Owner Poised to Fire Ruud van Nistelrooy Unless Star Player Steps Up After Devastating Man Utd Loss
Leicester City suffered another defeat on February 7th, losing to Manchester United in a controversial match.
The Foxes entered the game having lost eight of their last nine Premier League fixtures, and without a win over Manchester United in their two previous encounters this season.
As a result, a tough evening was anticipated, and although they arguably didn’t deserve it, Leicester fell to a 2-1 defeat.
Leicester performed well in the first half, even taking the lead just before the break. However, Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s effort wasn’t enough to secure progression in the competition.
In the second half, both Joshua Zirkzee and Harry Maguire found the back of the net, but Maguire’s goal, which was clearly offside, sparked outrage among Leicester supporters. Many questioned why VAR wasn’t in use during the match against Manchester United.
Leicester’s FA Cup Exit and Hope for the Future Although exiting the FA Cup isn’t catastrophic for Leicester, there were some positive takeaways from the game. Bilal El Khannouss and Caleb Okoli impressed, and another key player also delivered a strong performance.
Wilfred Ndidi made his long-awaited return to the starting lineup after being sidelined since Leicester’s 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.
His performance at Old Trafford drew praise from Leicester fans, with many believing the club’s survival hopes depend on him.
It’s difficult to dispute that point, as Ndidi noticeably improved the team during his time on the pitch. Once he was substituted, however, Manchester United gained more control of the game and likely would have won in extra time even without the controversial offside goal.
While Leicester isn’t expected to part ways with manager Ruud van Nistelrooy soon, it’s clear that Ndidi’s form is crucial to the team’s chances of turning results around.
If Ndidi underperforms, Van Nistelrooy’s position could be at risk before the season ends.
Van Nistelrooy Praises Ndidi’s Performance Ndidi only played 58 minutes against Manchester United, which was expected given his long absence.
However, the 28-year-old did enough to impress Van Nistelrooy, who praised him highly after the match, as reported by Leicestershire Live.
Van Nistelrooy said: “You saw the game, the way he played, how he lifted the team both on and off the ball. His performance was excellent, and his leadership stood out as well.
Not only did he wear the captain’s armband, but he also led by example, demanding more from his teammates, coaching, talking, and preventing situations from developing. I thought Bouba and Wilf had a great partnership on the ball and off the ball, controlling the game.”
