“Forget Matheus Cunha, this player was beyond everyone IMAGINATION, absolutely EXCEPTIONAL”- Chris Sutton hails ‘exceptional’ Wolves star during FA Cup win over Blackburn
Wolves have secured a spot in the FA Cup fifth round after a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
Joao Gomes and Matheus Cunha scored the goals that sent Wanderers through, and it was an impressive performance from Vitor Pereira’s side in Lancashire.
The game began a bit nervously for Wolves, as they struggled with inaccurate passing due to a bumpy pitch and windy conditions. However, Gomes put them ahead with a well-executed move involving Hwang Hee-chan, and Cunha doubled the lead just moments later.
Several Wolves players put in strong performances, with many fans particularly excited about Marshall Munetsi’s debut.
Cunha was named Player of the Match by Chris Sutton, who co-commentated for BBC Sport, but Sutton also praised another Wolves player for his outstanding display.
Emmanuel Agbadou continued his excellent form in the 2-0 win over Blackburn. The Ivorian defender has played every minute since his arrival from Reims, and Pereira has quickly integrated him into the team.
Agbadou lined up in the middle of the back three, just as he had done against Aston Villa, and delivered another solid performance. However, he was noticeably more composed on the ball in this game, completing 64 out of 72 passes (89%) according to Sofascore.
Chris Sutton Hails Agbadou’s Exceptional Performance Against Blackburn
Agbadou’s calmness at the back has been crucial in stabilizing Wolves’ defense, and his contributions didn’t go unnoticed by Chris Sutton.
Commenting midway through the second half as Agbadou won a free-kick for Wolves, Sutton said, “You talk about good additions, Agbadou has been excellent this afternoon. I always felt with Wolves in terms of the Premier League, they’re too good to go down.”
When Sutton selected Cunha as his Player of the Match, he also noted Agbadou’s exceptional performance: “I think Agbadou has been exceptional at the back for Wolves.”
Agbadou Proving to Be a Bargain
Wolves paid just over £16 million to sign Agbadou from Reims one month ago, and he’s already proving to be worth every penny.
With six appearances for Wolves under his belt, it’s clear that Agbadou is a top talent well-suited to the English game. He was named Wolves’ Player of the Month for January, a testament to his impressive start.
Fans are eager to see how much further Agbadou will improve as he settles into life at Wolves. Former player Steve Bull has called him “an unbelievable player,” and it’s clear that Agbadou is quickly becoming a key figure for the club.
