“Revealed: Duncan Ferguson’s 5 Game-Winning Secrets Everton MUST Use to Defeat Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby

Everton and Liverpool are set to face off in the rescheduled Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

The match, originally postponed due to severe weather conditions, will now see the two sides compete in what will be the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park this season.

David Moyes’ Everton have been in strong Premier League form, winning their last three league games, although they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Bournemouth. Similarly, Arne Slot’s Liverpool were eliminated from the FA Cup after a surprising defeat to Plymouth Argyle over the weekend, but they currently lead the Premier League table.

Everton legend Duncan Ferguson has backed his former club to secure a victory against Liverpool, sharing five key things they must do to come out on top in the rivalry.

Ferguson’s Formula for Everton’s Victory
Ferguson, speaking to Jamie Carragher in The Telegraph, emphasized that Everton must start by setting the tempo and putting pressure on Liverpool. He believes that once Everton gain control, they will need to defend resolutely while rallying the fans to support the team.

According to Ferguson, the win will likely be a narrow one, with an Everton defender needing to produce a standout performance. “I fancy Everton to win,” Ferguson stated. “They can do it if they set the tempo, put them under pressure, get on top of them, get the fans involved, and defend for their lives. One of the defenders will have to be man of the match, but then they can nick it.”

Meanwhile, Carragher acknowledged that a night match at Goodison Park will be a true test for Slot’s Liverpool. “For me, it is the ultimate test of Arne Slot’s new ‘calmer Liverpool’,” he said. “They have dealt with many challenges this season, but an evening game at Goodison Park is something else.”

Team News for Everton vs Liverpool
Moyes has confirmed that Vitalii Mykolenko may return for Everton, but Nathan Patterson, Seamus Coleman, and Dwight McNeil remain sidelined due to injury. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Armando Broja, and Youssef Chermiti are also unavailable for the derby, though January signing Carlos Alcaraz could make his first start.

For Liverpool, Joe Gomez will miss the game due to a leg injury, while Tyler Morton continues to recover from a shoulder problem. However, Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to return after missing two matches with an injury.
