“Abdoulaye Doucoure BREAKS SILENCE After Shocking Red Card as FA Set to Take ACTION Following Everton vs Liverpool
Abdoulaye Doucoure was one of four individuals sent off following Everton’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.
Both Liverpool and Everton may face fines after the dramatic encounter between the two teams.
The final match between the fierce rivals at Goodison Park was filled with tension. James Tarkowski’s 98th-minute equalizer secured Everton a 2-2 draw after Mo Salah had looked to put Liverpool nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
After the final whistle, a confrontation ensued. Doucoure, the home midfielder, celebrated in front of the traveling fans and was grabbed by Curtis Jones of Liverpool, which triggered the clash. Both Doucoure and Jones received second yellow cards and were sent off. Additionally, Liverpool’s head coach Arne Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also shown red cards by referee Michael Oliver and will each serve a one-match touchline ban.
A Premier League statement confirmed, “The referee issued second yellow and red cards to Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucouré following an altercation after the final whistle. Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also shown straight red cards after the final whistle.”
It is expected that the Football Association may take further action due to the failure to prevent improper or provocative behavior from the players, which could lead to fines for both teams. Earlier in the season, Tottenham Hotspur were fined £20,000 after multiple players clashed with West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus during a 4-1 win.
Despite his red card, Doucoure posted on social media after the dramatic draw, offering no comment on the incident but sending a message to Everton fans. He wrote on X: “PASSION, DETERMINATION, DESIRE.”
Doucoure will serve a one-match suspension for his red card, which will be enforced when Everton face Crystal Palace on Saturday (5:30 pm kick-off). Manager David Moyes expressed disappointment with the 32-year-old’s actions, especially as the team is already dealing with a shortage of players, including Iliman Ndiaye, who had to leave the pitch in tears due to a knee injury.
Moyes said, “I’m disappointed with Doucoure because we need him, we’re down on numbers at the moment. We’ve got to be careful with our actions. Discipline is always difficult in these kinds of games, and tonight was one where sending-offs could easily happen.”
