Leicester City is going through a turbulent period, and fans fear things could get even worse as they prepare to host title-contenders Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.
Currently sitting 18th in the Premier League table, the Foxes suffered a crushing 4-0 defeat to Everton in their last league match, intensifying calls for Jon Rudkin’s dismissal.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken on the difficult challenge of steering Leicester to safety. Ahead of their clash with Arsenal, reports suggest fans are planning to make their frustrations known.
A protest is expected to take place in the 14th minute of the match, referencing the controversial transfer saga of Adrien Silva. Leicester believed they had signed the Portuguese midfielder in August 2017, only to miss the registration deadline by 14 seconds.
Supporters are voicing their discontent over the club’s management, and former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has also highlighted a major issue Van Nistelrooy faces.
Martin Keown identifies Leicester’s biggest challenge
Keown, who had a brief stint at Leicester before leaving in January 2005, has now transitioned into punditry and shared his concerns about the struggling side.
He believes Leicester’s heavy reliance on 38-year-old Jamie Vardy is a significant problem, emphasizing the need for another player to share the burden of leading the attack.
“I think their problem is relying on a 38-year-old striker in Vardy,” Keown told talkSPORT.
“When you reach that age, it’s incredible that he’s still playing such a crucial role. It’s a testament to him, but realistically, he shouldn’t still be their main striker. By now, they should have developed a successor.”
Keown questions Leicester’s transfer strategy
Leicester’s only signing in the January transfer window was Woyo Coulibaly from Parma, despite glaring squad issues, including the lack of a long-term replacement for Vardy.
With financial constraints limiting spending, Keown subtly criticized the club’s owners for failing to invest in goal-scoring options.
“That’s a major issue—finding players who can put the ball in the net,” he added.
“They haven’t spent much recently, and investment in the squad has slowed down over the years.”
With Vardy’s contract set to expire in June 2025, Leicester must start planning for life without their legendary striker before it’s too late.
